Game Theory

Introduction to Game Theory 2013

I teach an introductory game theory class at the University of Canterbury, Econ 223. Here is a link to the course web page….well the “external” course web page. There is an “internal” one accessible only by University of Canterbury students who are enrolled in the course, but I maintain this external one for anyone else interested in the course. I screen capture the slides and coordinated audio and when I have time edit the lectures, chopping them up a little into byte size chunks…a little like coursra.org does (see below).

On the BlogPosts page look use the category Econ223 2013 to identify all of the relevant video clips.

How doe Econ 223 and this site relate to coursera?

I’d recommend you check out the game theory course on coursera.org . The game theory course I teach, Econ 223,  isn’t as mathematical as the one taught at coursera …on purpose. I want to attract interest from students in many  disciplines where math based teaching doesn’t typically occur  -  history, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, english lit (yes!!), management, accountancy , law…-  - as well as students from engineering, economics, computer science, biology, math/stats . Game theory and the reasoning processes in it is about life, and should be an integral component of any liberal arts, commerce, law  or science degree irrespective of whether you are math phobic.  So I designed a course at that non-math level.  Actually many majors in econ at my home university take Econ 223 along with an upper undergraduate course in game theory much like the coursera one (ie using the language and techniques of mathematics) – they complement one another. One builds concepts useful for understanding the key ideas and themes from game theory, the other adds additional modelling technques allowing one to “do” game theory.

Edited videos from my past lectures in Introductory Game Theory can also be found on youtube….Google “Econ 223″ , or look look here on youtube. I am in the process now of making this site, strategicecon.com the “home” for my own edited video clips. Here is a sample edited video.

The editing process takes muchos time….but I plan to get the best of my  lectures in this course up  and running 2013. Enjoy
